This is a little segment that I thought of starting where I share and discuss my thoughts on black-owned businesses. I believe it’s important that I support businesses run by fellow black people, to encourage and big them up as they express themselves in a world where it’s much harder for black people to flourish.
The first one is Legendary Rootz.
I’ve been following them on twitter for ages and it’s been amazing to watch them grow and flourish. Legendary Rootz is an American online fashion website selling anything from jumpers and t-shirts to phone cases. I hugely admire the way they use apparel and other products to promote the power and strength that black people have (and their Instagram page is a beautifully curated page full of their productions and anything that serves the purpose of inspiring black people). They also use their Twitter platform to actively engage with the black community which I find so important. Their twitter page has become a safe haven where black people are free to discuss relevant and also seemingly not so relevant topics. They’ve created a community, a family where we as black people can constantly be reminded that we matter and our voices will be heard.
The motto on their social media pages “embrace your roots”, is a kind reminder that we shouldn’t forget who we are or where we come from. We should wear our culture and history on our sleeves with pride. I find this so beautiful.
